App privacy policy
What the TribeTale iPhone app collects, why, and the choices you have.
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Who we are
The TribeTale app is operated by Codas Labs, LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company (“we”). This policy covers the TribeTale iPhone app. The website privacy policy covers this marketing website. Publications you read in the app are run by independent writers, who have their own relationship with their subscribers.
What the app collects
- Account details — your email address, your name if you give one, and an account identifier. We use these to sign you in and show you your publications and subscriptions.
- Sign-in information — if you sign in with Apple, Google or Microsoft, we receive your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and an identifier from that provider. If you use a password, we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it.
- What you write — if you write a publication, the posts and drafts you create in the app are saved to your account so you can publish them.
- Notification token — if you allow notifications, your device gives us a token so we can tell you about new posts. You can turn notifications off in iPhone Settings at any time.
- Crash and performance data — if the app crashes, a crash report with the device model, operating system version, app version, an app installation identifier and your account identifier is sent so we can find and fix the problem.
Some choices stay only on your device and are never sent to us: the publications you hide, and your sign-in session, which is kept in the iPhone's secure storage.
If you report a post or contact support, the app opens your email app. We receive what you choose to send, and use it to handle your report or question.
What we do not do
The app has no advertising and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the app's data to build advertising profiles.
Who we share it with
We share data only with providers that run the service for us, and only what each needs. The ones the app relies on are:
- Railway hosts our servers and databases.
- Google (Firebase Crashlytics) receives crash and performance reports.
- Expo (650 Industries) delivers app updates and, with Apple, push notifications using your notification token.
- Functional Software (Sentry) receives technical error logs from our servers, which may include your account identifier.
- Mailgun and our own email server, hosted by Hetzner, send sign-in links and emails from publications you subscribe to.
- Apple, Google or Microsoft receive your sign-in request if you choose to sign in with them.
Each provider is bound by a written agreement that requires it to protect your data at least as well as this policy does and to use it only to provide its service to us. The complete list is on our sub-processors page.
When you subscribe to a publication, its writer can see your email address and subscription so they can send you their newsletter. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your account details, sign-in information, notification tokens and, if you write a publication, every publication you own with its posts and subscriber list. We keep only the records the law requires us to keep, such as payment and tax records. Copies in server logs and backups are removed as those expire on their normal schedule.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Settings → Delete account. If you write a publication, the app opens your account on the web to confirm the deletion; we stop any charges and delete the account within 5 business days, and email you when it is done. If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also removes TribeTale's access to your Apple ID. You can also email support@tribetale.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, download or delete your personal information, or to object to how we use it. Email support@tribetale.com and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. We are based in the United States, and our providers may process information there and in other countries.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email.
