TribeTalevsbeehiiv
beehiiv is a genuinely good product with a generous free tier. It also charges you $43 a month before it stops taking a cut, and $96 a month before you can have your own branding.
“The only platform that brings together every tool you need to grow and earn.”

Where beehiiv wins
We'll go first.
The ad network is real revenue we cannot match
beehiiv's ad network finds sponsors and sells placements for you. That is a working revenue channel, not a feature list item, and we have nothing like it. If sponsorship is how you intend to make money, weigh that heavily.
The free tier is more generous than most
2,500 subscribers free is a lot. We match it rather than beat it — anyone claiming to beat it is usually hiding the catch somewhere else.
And here is the turn
Then look at what sits behind each paywall
beehiiv's paid tiers are not really about size. Their $43 plan and their $96 plan both cover you to 100,000 subscribers. What separates them is which basic things you are allowed to have.
Taking 0% of your subscription revenue starts at $43 a month. Letting an AI assistant write into your newsletter starts at $43 a month. An audio version of your posts starts at $96. Removing beehiiv's branding from your own publication starts at $96.
On TribeTale all four of those are included at $29 — because they are not premium features, they are what owning your publication means. We would rather charge for scale than for dignity.
Where beehiiv genuinely wins is raw list size: $43 to 100,000 subscribers is aggressive. Our answer is different in kind — connect your own sending provider and we stop counting your subscribers altogether.

Moving over
What it actually takes.
beehiiv exports subscribers as a spreadsheet and TribeTale imports it directly, paid status included. Post archives do not move in one click — we do not have a beehiiv importer, and we would rather say so than let you find out afterwards.
Questions people ask
- beehiiv covers 100,000 subscribers for $43. Why would I pay you $79?
- If you are on our sending, you would not — at that size their price is better and we will not pretend otherwise. Our answer is to connect your own sending provider, at which point your subscriber count stops mattering to us at all. Amazon SES costs roughly ten cents per thousand emails.
- Do I lose the ad network?
- Yes, and it is the strongest reason to stay with beehiiv. We have no equivalent and none planned. If a meaningful share of your income is beehiiv-sold sponsorship, that income does not come with you.
- What does 'your own sending provider' actually mean?
- You connect an account you already have — Amazon SES, Postmark, Resend, SendGrid, Mailgun or a plain mail server — and your newsletters go out through it, from your domain, under your sending reputation. It is more setup than clicking send, and it is the reason we can stop counting your list.
Try it before you move anything.
The free plan takes 2,500 subscribers and no card. Bring a copy of your list, publish one issue, and see how it feels.
