TribeTalevsKit
Kit is the best automation tool for creators and has the most generous free tier in the category. It also takes 3.5% plus 30 cents of every sale — on every plan, including the $66 one.

Where Kit wins
We'll go first.
Their automations are the best in the category
Visual sequences, tagging, conditional paths — Kit has spent a decade on this and it shows. If your business runs on a sophisticated nurture sequence, that sequence is better built in Kit than anywhere else, including here.
10,000 subscribers free is extraordinary
Nobody else in this comparison comes close. If your list is under ten thousand and you are not charging for anything yet, Kit's free tier is genuinely hard to argue with and we are not going to try.
The Creator Network brings new readers
Recommendations between Kit publications put subscribers in front of each other. We have no equivalent.
And here is the turn
Then look at what every sale costs you
Kit charges 3.5% plus 30 cents on digital products and subscription payments. Not on the free plan only — on every plan, including Pro at $66 a month.
The arithmetic is theirs and it is public. On $50,000 of subscription revenue, 3.5% is $1,750 a year, plus 30 cents on every individual transaction on top. On TribeTale that number is zero, on every paid plan, forever.
The subscriber maths is the other half. Kit's Creator plan is $33 a month for 1,000 subscribers. Ours is $29 for 10,000 — and if you bring your own sending provider, we stop counting subscribers altogether.
There is a real difference in kind underneath all this. Kit is an email marketing platform; TribeTale is a publication — a website on your domain, a paid membership, a community, an archive people can search. Which is why the honest answer for many people is not 'switch' at all.

Moving over
What it actually takes.
This is the comparison where switching may well be the wrong move. Kit is one of the ten marketing platforms TribeTale syncs members into, so the common answer is to run both: TribeTale as the publication — the site, the paid membership, the community, the archive — and Kit as the automation layer it feeds. Members sync on signup, upgrade, cancellation and unsubscribe, so your sequences keep running untouched. If you do want to move outright, export your subscribers from Kit as a spreadsheet and import it here; paid status comes across.
Questions people ask
- Should I actually replace Kit with this?
- Often, no. If your business is built on Kit's automations, keep them. Use TribeTale for the parts Kit was never meant to be — a real publication on your domain, a paid membership, a community, an audio version — and let the two sync. We would rather have you as a happy integration than an unhappy migration.
- Their free tier is 10,000 subscribers and yours is 2,500. Why would I start here?
- If you are not charging anything yet, you probably should start there — we mean it. The moment you start charging, Kit takes 3.5% plus 30 cents of every payment on every plan they sell, and that is when the arithmetic turns.
- Is 3.5% really that different from Substack's 10%?
- It is smaller, and it is charged on a plan you are already paying for, which is the part people miss. Substack takes 10% and charges nothing monthly. Kit charges $33 to $66 a month AND takes 3.5% plus 30 cents. We charge the monthly fee and take nothing on top.
Try it before you move anything.
The free plan takes 2,500 subscribers and no card. Bring a copy of your list, publish one issue, and see how it feels.
