Acceptable use policy
What is not allowed on TribeTale, how to report it, and what we do about it.
Last updated: 27 October 2026
This policy is part of our terms of service. It applies to everyone who uses TribeTale — writers, readers and anyone using our programming interfaces — and to everything published or sent through it, including posts, publication pages, emails, images, audio and comments.
Zero tolerance
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Content that breaks this policy is removed, and the account that published it can be suspended or closed, without warning where the harm is serious.
What is not allowed
- Illegal content or activity — anything that breaks the law where it is published or read, or that promotes, sells or arranges illegal goods or services.
- Child sexual exploitation — any content that sexualises, exploits or endangers children. We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement.
- Hate — content that attacks, dehumanises or calls for exclusion of people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or serious illness.
- Harassment and bullying — targeting a person with abuse, threats, humiliation or unwanted sexual attention, or encouraging others to do so.
- Violence and threats — threatening or inciting violence, glorifying violent attacks or their perpetrators, or supporting terrorist or violent extremist groups.
- Sexually explicit content — pornography and sexually explicit images, video, audio or descriptions.
- Self-harm — content that encourages or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
- Private information — publishing someone's private or identifying information, such as a home address, or intimate images of them, without their consent.
- Spam and deception — sending email to people who did not subscribe, buying or importing lists of addresses that did not consent, impersonating a person or organisation, phishing, scams, and misleading claims about health, money or elections that could cause real harm.
- Malicious software and attacks — distributing malware, or trying to break into, overload or get around the limits of TribeTale or anyone else's systems.
- Infringement — publishing work you do not have the rights to, including copyrighted text, images or audio and other people's trademarks.
Writers are responsible for everything their publication publishes and sends, including content drafted with AI tools.
How to report something
- In the TribeTale app — tap the ••• button on a post or publication and choose Report this post or Report this publication. This opens an email to our support team with the details we need.
- By email — write to support@tribetale.com with the address of the post or publication and what is wrong with it.
You can also stop seeing a publication straight away: in the app, tap ••• and choose Hide this publication.
What happens after a report
A person on our team reads every report. We aim to review it within 24 hours. If the content breaks this policy, we remove it, and depending on how serious it is and whether it has happened before, we warn the writer, suspend their account or close it. Where the law requires, we report content to the authorities. If you gave us your email address, we will tell you when we have acted on your report.
If we remove your content or suspend your account and you think we got it wrong, reply to our email or write to support@tribetale.com and we will look at the decision again.
